Fishing

 

Our "DEEP LAKE", hence the company name, is located 55 miles/90 km east of the town of Slave Lake. It is not a big lake, slightly less than 2 km/ 1 mile across. In difference to other lakes in the area it is fairly deep, 33 feet/11 meters with a variety of vegetation, reed beds and bays. It is spring fed, resulting in very clear water.

 

The lake has perch, but due to frequent winter kills they are rarely over 8 inches/20 cm. But we have NORTHERN PIKE!! Not really big pike but we have LOTS!! The main diet is fresh water shrimps, which explains why they have difficulty to reach braggable size, but on the other hand the taste is in a class by itself.

 

To catch 50 pike (yes fifty) in a day is not uncommon!


We use Lund boats and electric motors which is a quiet and convenient combination for trolling, casting and spinning. Fly fishing is a rapidly increasing method and catching a pike on a fly is very exciting!
